AKI-OTYR CONTINUES IMPLEMENTATION OF ITS ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME

 The production activity of OAO NAK AKI-OTYR, as of any other company of the industry, has significant environmental impact, assessed by the subsoil user through various laboratory analyses and internal ecological audit. 

 Under this programme, local environmental monitoring is performed at the licensed areas of the Company, including sampling and subsequent analysis of air, water, soil, bed sediments, snow cover, as well as landscape monitoring. Measurement of air pollutants concentration at the boundary of the SPZ and in the industrial emissions, and control over drilling waste pits are conducted.  

To avoid any adverse impact on water bodies, the accredited laboratories carry out their regular and sustained monitoring surveys, taking and analyzing samples of underground and surface water, as well as of sediments. All the analyses currently meet the requirements.

Water use agreements are being concluded in order to use water area of the objects (field pipeline operation).

Furthermore, the Company carries out measures to compensate the potential damage through assisted reproduction of the living aquatic resources in the water bodies of commercial fishing importance. 

In addition, works on prevention of oil and gas shows, blowouts, accidental spills, are being undertaken.

All well pads have been brought into compliance with applicable legal requirements. The works targeted at their maintenance are conducted, including reconstruction of bunding areas of production and exploration well pads and ramps, as well as cleanout of drainage tanks and other operations.

Infield roads are repaired and culverts are cleaned out. APG utilization level of up to 95% is maintained on a regular basis.

Within programme`s framework, the facilities for oil heating and wastewater disposal have been constructed at Peschany licensed area. At the wastewater treatment facility “Istok-10” the biological treatment of domestic and industrial sewage, regular micro-bio control of the quality or treated water and systematic observations for the water body and its protective zone are performed.

Another environmentally oriented infrastructure project of Peschany represents the construction of solid waste landfill, scheduled for 2017. The project is in the planning stage now.

In the near future the Company will carry on the environmental management of its licensed areas.
