Schools Not Bullets
The next awesome statement of Basayev, replicated by mass media, is addressed not only to Russia’s authorities but for the first time to the domestic business. This time the terrorist, on whose conscience weigh hundreds of human lives, is threatening to Mikhail Gutseriev, a well-known businessman, the head of company Russneft.
Basayev has accused Russia’s special services in the Beslan tragedy. As for Gutseriev he is to blame for constructing social projects on the territory of the Republic.
As is well known on the eve of Sept. 1 the construction of a modern school complex had been finished in Grozny financed by Mikhail Gutseriev. The businessman promised that next year he would do the reconstruction of a big hospital complex of the Republic and build a new diagnosis center in the Urus-Martanovsky region.
The significant contribution made by the businessman into the restoration of peaceful life in Chechnya has caused irritation of the rebels and now they promise to punish Gutseriev.
“We shall return the blood of our brothers and sister into his home and to his relatives, at least the blood of the 32 shahids of Beslan. We shall make him choke with his own blood and taste its bitterness” – threatened the separatists’ leader in his statement.
The response of Gutseriev to Basayev’s threats is not known. But a source close to him cited his words:
“See no point in making any comments on what is said by the outlaw. I have been building and will continue building. It is schools that Chechnya needs not bullets”.
