It was for the seventh time that cross races of snowmobiles for prizes of OAO “Belkamneft” were held on the ice of the Kama near Karakulino. This year the races were dedicated to the 10th jubilee of “Belkamneft”, a leading enterprise of one of the top oil companies of Russia – Oil and Gas Company “RussNeft”. Like in previous years, traditional technical races turned to be a grand festival not only for the people of Karakulino, but also for numerous fans from the whole Udmurtia and neighboring regions.
The festival was inaugurated by the Head of Administration of Karakulino District, Sergey Tretiakov. He stressed the interregional status of the competition: “The races have become very popular not only in Karakulino and Udmurtia, but in other republics as well. “Belkamneft” has done a lot of good for Karakulino District and a lot of good is still in stock”.
General Director of OAO “Belkamneft” Vladimir Ignatko thanked Sergey Tretiakov for the kind words addressed to the company and assured him that the oilmen are not going to rest on oars. “Today we have come here to meet our friends, to see a sports festival and I’m glad that “Belkamneft” is keeping up good sport traditions in this wonderful land. Let the best be the winner!”. These words of Vladimir Ignatko started the races.
The flag of the competition was raised by Raphael Shamsiakhmetov from Neftekamsk, the winner of the last year races of self-made snow-mobiles,. The ceremony was accompanied by the hymn of the RF and a firework. Same as last year Shamsiakhmetov didn’t rush ahead at the start but got under way quietly. The serpentine route a bit more than four km long was wandering along the snow-covered surface of the Kama, full of water traps. Most of the self-made mobiles (in Karakulino people call them a lot of funny names: “gut-shakers”, “macaques” – for they jump like monkeys, “puffies”, because of huge wheels, “hybrids of kitchen machine and internal combustion engine” etc.) got into those lanes. The guest from Neftekamsk managed to outdrive all of his competitors, stuck in the lanes, and was the first to cover the two-round distance.
The second run was performed by snow-mobiles “Buran” (“Snowstorm”) which were to hurtle trice before the people who crowded the Karakulino pier. And once more a guest from Neftekamsk won the race. Same as Shamsiakhmetov, Alexander Yemelianov won in Karakulino for the second time.
As soon as the winner got off his vehicle, the reporter of “Izvestia” started asking questions:
“Alexander, what was more difficult: to win this year or a year ago?”
“I fail words…”, the champion, condition inspector at “Belkamneft”, could hardly catch his breath. “Today it was much harder physically, because the self-made “macaques” have plowed the whole track, there is water everywhere, and one has to drive round all those lanes not to get stuck in them.”
It is worth mentioning that the Yemelianovs were represented at the races not even by a family duet, but by a profession dynasty – the son of Alexander and Natalia Mikhailovna, same as his parents, works at “Belkamneft”. Last year he was but a spectator, but today he debuted in the race astride a white “Buran” with “Golden Eagle” stickers on the hood. It’s a shame, however, that to get to the finishing post he had to use the help of a tow truck.
After the “Buran” snow-mobiles the track was occupied by domestic models “Rys” (“Lynx”) and “Taiga”, and the last run was performed by racers straddling imported machines. The winners in these two runs were, respectively, Dmitry Lavrentiev and Igor Nevostruyev, both from Izhevsk. It is curious enough, that at the finishing stage of the race (and they raced in different runs) these two pilots in the rage of the competition urged their vehicles with the same words:
“Please, darling, do get me to the finish!”
And the “darlings” brought their riders to glorious victories. It is worth mentioning, that in each of these classes Lavrentiev and Nevostruyev outdrove , among other racers, the winners of the lately held track races championship of Russia. And not for the first time, what confirms the high level of traditional sports and technical festival in Karakulino, which was held thanks to organizational, financial and emotional support of OAO “Belkamneft”.
