REFERENCE
The story of the first free library began in May 1918. Library stock was set due to the book and magazine supply of all Izhevsk reading rooms: two factory libraries, two lending libraries (Zarechnaya and Nagornaya), and library of the Officer Assembly. In 1930es new Izhevsk library got the status of the Republican library and settled in one of the houses of Maxim Gorky. In the end of 1957 the Republican library named after Vladimir Lenin was moved to a new building in Sovetskaya street.
Three years have passed before it got the status of the National Library.
Today the fund of the National Library numbers about 1.5 mln books, with 5 thous. of rare documents. There are 25 departments in the library, which daily provide about one thous. readers with the books. And, as the guests noted, there's none Izhevsk student, who didn't come to the library at least once.
National Library of the Udmurt Region keeps with care not only volumes of the unique books, but actively develops modern technologies, offering its readers unique multimedia libraries. OAO "Belkamneft", a subsidiary of OAO NK "RussNeft", helped to supplement library database. The representatives of "Belkamneft" also arrived to congratulate the National Library with the jubilee.
- The Library is interested in electronic resources, - sayed Inna Krasnova, the Head of the Information Centre for Engineering and Agriculture. – Electronic Library "Oil and Gas", made by the Tomsk Politechnical Institute, is unique. It numbers about 300 books. To acquire this Electronic Library we referred to "Belkamneft" for help. The oil workers immediately answered to our request, and now CD "Oil and Gas" has keen demand among students who get professional education.
Thanks to the help, which the National Library of the Udmurt Republic gets from the enterprises, present-day problems of integration into All-Russia information network are successfully solved. And it means, that the main library of the Udmurt Republic, which celebrated this year its nonagenarian anniversary, will answer the requirements of its users in future.
