A motorcycle, without slowing down before the jump, rocketed into the air and landed about twenty meters farther… “It’s number one hundred fifteen”… fans whispered…
Roar of motors, pebbles and sand thrown from under the wheels, risk, struggle, victory…A lot of people gathered to watch an extreme and exciting site – motocross through uneven terrain arranged by OAO “Orsknefteorgsintez”supported by the head company “RussNeft”. The races were preceded by a period of serious preparation. Tons of ground and saw-dust were brought by trucks. Due safety measures were taken.
The championship was dedicated to the memory of a veteran of the plant, V.A.Sorokin, Hero of the Soviet Union. Being a pilot during the World War II, he made 74 operation flights. In course one of the flights he was wounded, but still managed to complete the mission and to return to the airdrome.
General Director of the plant, V.V.Piliugin, a motorcyclist himself and a devoted fan of this sport, greeted the sportsmen, wished them luck and was watching the race standing very close to the track, paying no attention to the risk and dust from under the wheels.
More than 40 motorcyclists from our region, neighboring regions and from Bashkiria started for victory. The age range was surprisingly wide from 5 (!) to fifty-two years. The length of the track - 1350 meters. Eight jumps, three steep turns, two negative turns – nobody could think it too easy. Moreover, the weather added to the difficulties of the race: intense heat (30oC), than heavy shower and heat again. But neither the diluted road nor deep poodles stopped the sportsmen. Even the spectators stayed at the autodrome.
The best were the racers from Bashkiria. In one of the classes our fellow-townsmen got all the prizes. Sportsmen from Samara Region also got their awards. The winners received flowers, charters, sound financial remuneration, but the most popular racer that day was five-year-old Kolia Kornev from Buzuluk who masterfully finished the race at his small but brave motorbike.
“In Russia this year is dedicated to Family”, - said the Chairman of the Trade Union of Oil Chemists Irina Maslova, “I’d like to see more families where such children - committed, purposeful – are being brought up.
Women-fans admired the sportsmen: “These are real Russian guys, they know how to win,” – they said. “We are grateful to Orsknefteorgsintez” for this beautiful holiday.
