Petrochemists strive for the clean sky

29.09.2007 "The Vestnik of Orsk"

The increase of industrial emissions endangers the world’s ecology and Russia is among the pollutants. The production sector of industry has to be turned into an ecologically friendly sector. That is quite a simple thing that is clear even to children, however not all top managers strive to put it into practice except those of socially oriented companies. Among those who care about the ecology there is Oil and Gas Company “RussNeft” represented in our city by its subsidiary - ОАО «Orsknefteorgsyntez».

Year by year petrochemists are trying to reduce the negative impact of the plant on the environment. The company operates on the basis of the corporate policy oriented at the ecology, labor safety and industrial protection. This policy also secures the reduction of ecological risks and appliance of the best available technologies in production that provide the minimal impact on the environment. “ONOS” allocates considerable funds into the ecologic issues.  In the first half of the year 2007 the expenses of the company for ecological issues were more than 384 (!) million rubles. These events allow improving the ecological situation both at the plant and in the whole city. One of the most important issues among the others is air purity.

All the emissions are registered.

This summer the refinery at Orsk undertook great work. According to N.M. Guseva, head of the laboratory on the environmental protection at “Orsknefteorgsyntez”, there was undertaken inventory accounting of the hazardous emissions resources:
There are more than 300 resources from each of which there have been taken samples. Final documents are being prepared at OOO “Consultant - ecology”, engineer and project center” in Ekaterinburg and preliminary results are encouraging. There have not been registered any excess of the rate of maximum permissible discharge. More than that as compared to the results of latest inventory accounting of 2004 the number of discharge resources has reduced. That is the result of modernization and the reconstruction which have been carried out at the plant especially actively with the help of the Oil and Gas Company “RussNeft”.

Water and air are on the everyday control.

The laboratory on the environmental protection at “Orsknefteorgsyntez” is a huge modern subdivision. Its staff is the most qualified and the equipment is the best in the city. The laboratory is accredited to carry out the monitoring of the workspace air at the distance of 1000 – 2100 km and the air of the residential area.

Every day, two times a day, at 8 and at 13 o’clock, the laboratory assistants leave to take measures. The air is monitored at certain points that are chosen under the torch depending on the direction of the wind. That can be Krasnaya (red) street, the square of  Glory, the region of TPS, the district of the bread – baking complex, the square of Gagarin, school №6, the village of Victory and the Nikel  village. The air is monitored on the subject of nitrogen dioxide, hydrogen disulfide, phenol, sulfur dioxide, hydrocarbon, hydrogen nitride. The express analysis is fulfilled at the chromatograph of high accuracy which was acquired by the laboratory several years ago.  The results show that the hazardous emissions do not exceed the normal rate.
The quality of drinking, circulated and sewage waters is also being examined. Laboratory assistants take samples from the wells on the territory of the plant and examine the composition of the water discharged by the processing units. This data goes to the conservancy, the operator and industrial sites. Water samples are taken for chemical, sanitary and microbiological analysis, which lets conclude that, the treatment facilities operate in a very efficient way.
