When I ‘m grown up, I’ll be an oilman
Dynasties are an important matter for any plant. And there are many at OAO “Varioganneft” (a subsidiary of Oil and gas Company “RussNeft”. Intergenerational continuity is vey popular at the plant and the workers are introduced to the family profession from an early age. An annual contest “When I ‘m grown up, I’ll be an oilman” among the children of the workers of the plant has become traditional. The first contest was dedicated to the 30th jubilee of the company and only a small group of enthusiasts participated in it. This year the number of participants doubled.
The initiator of the event is the United Council of youth of the plant. They promote all the new and progressive ideas, they are engaged in scientific and technical researches, they hold conferences of young specialists, participate in the contests “Young Parliamentary”, “Golden Future of Yugra”, arrange all kinds of festivals. For example, they are preparing a fair sportive and recreational show for the Day of Protection of Children. And now, within the frames of the contest, the kids are being taken to oilfields, subsidiaries of “Varioganneft”, getting acquainted with their future profession, the profession of their parents.
The kids are enthusiastic about the excursions. They were shown a forge and saw how the iron was forged, given a chance to touch rock with their own hands, they listened to a lecture on geology and visited the accountant’s office and the canteen. Oil business does not include oil production only, all the elements of a plant’s structure are important.
The contest has lasted for 45 days and its final stage included two tasks: to right a composition “When I ‘m grown up, I’ll be an oilman“ and to draw a picture to the same subject.
Anna Alekberova, 9th grade, school No 3, says that she likes the profession of oilman because it is manifold. She is grateful to the plant were her parents work, because there children are always taken good care of. Recreation camps, sanatoriums, all kinds of events – all that make children understand that their future will be well provided for.
Igor Ustinov, school No 5, 5th grade, wrote his composition in the form of a verse. The boy is sure he will become an oilmen, that is why it were pumping jacks that impressed him most at the excursion.
When the tasks were finished, all the participants were taken to dinner. Vladimir Balaganin, First Deputy General Director congratulated the winners and in his speech underlined the importance of dynasties and approved the children’s wish to follow their parents to the oil industry.
All the participants of the contest received money certificates – their first advanced payment for the oil they are to produce.

It is impossible even to imagine what will become of the country if oil stop to be produced^ the cars will stop, the planes won’t take off! Oil is necessary for the country. It is used for production of gasoline, kerosene and a lot of useful things. And all those things are to be of the best quality. And this is history created by the hands of oil men, my parents. Their work is a contribution to the economy of our country.”
