A man who created an epoch

In July it'll be 50 years since the day, when Gennady Sergeevich, being a graduate of Ukhtinsky Mining-petroleum Technical School, set his foot on Saratov land. Arriving in 1958 to the village Stepnoye, he immediately fell into a constant flow of events of the thriving oil region. At first, he worked as oil and gas production operator, head of machine-shop. A good school of management for the young specialist became the work of supervisor and then the First Secretary of the Soviet committee of All-Union Lenin Young Communist League. In 1962 G.S.Luzyanin returned to oil industry: senior engineer, production foreman, head of division for wellbore testing, head of Furmanovskoye gas-and-oil extracting enterprise. In 1966 he became the Head of Zavolzhskoye oil-and-gas production department and soon he raised it to the rank of the best enterprises in the Region and industry, as evidenced by sublime government decorations. In 1972 Gennady Sergeevich was appointed Chief Engineer, and from 1976 to 1997 he worked in the position of General Director of "Saratovneftegaz". All these years the enterprise fulfilled plans on oil and gas production, on drill footage and reserves increment of hydrocarbons.
Together with his working career he successfully graduated from the Moscow Institute of Oil and Gas Industry (nowadays called as: Moscow Petrochemical and Gas Industry Institute after I.M.Gubkin). Finding time for technical creativity, scientific work, important public and state affairs, he took an active part in the elective body of regional and republic authorities. He is Ph.D. in Economics, the author of 12 patented inventions, 32 published works, including 5 monographs. He is awarded Order of Lenin, The Red Banner of Labour, order of Badge of Honor, a number of medals. He is honored the title of "Honored Laborer of oil and gas industry of RSFSR", "Honored oil-worker of the Ministry of Oil Industry of USSR".
During the period from 1972 to 1997, when Luzyanin was the Head of "Saratovneftegaz", there were brought into operation 14 oil-gas fields, 18 gas fields and 17 oil fields. There was recovered 33,2 mln tons of oil and 26,2 bln cubic metres of gas. Only in Saratov region there were constructed and brought into operation 550 new wellsites. Increase of standard fuel amounted to 135 tons. Reserves life of the scheduled exploration rate in 1998 was brought to 40 years against 9 years in 1972, and gas, in its turn, to 68 years against 10 years in 1972.
Gennady Sergeevich payed much attention to field facilities construction, to bringing into development of new oilfields, to site renovation, introduction of new technology, recent developments in the sphere. Social decisions, including provision of housing, were of similar importance for him. In Saratov and in the areas of the region, where there was carried out oil production, there was constructed 500 thous. m2 of comfortable dwelling. There were fully demolished barracks and trailers. There were put into service 10 hostels, 2 preventative clinics, hospital quarter, polyclinic, 2 recreation camps, 1 physical culture school, 3 sports centers, 2 culture centers, and other community facilities. Executive talent and professionalism of G.S. Luzyanin was used at Zapadno-Sibirskoye oilfields, where under adverse climatic conditions the teams of drillers under his guidance drilled more than 5 thous. oil-wells. This allowed to increase production rate at "Surgutneftegaz". More than 100 oil-wells were drilled by the teams from "Saratovneftegaz", while developing the fields at Zhanazhol in western Kazakhstan.
«All my working life is devoted to the development of oil and gas industry in the Saratov Region, and also to the development of Western Siberia and Kazakhstan, - says Gennady Sergeevich.- Though I don't work in "Saratovneftegaz" for several years, I always with great interest follow the state of production, meet with management and specialists. The staff of "Saratovneftegaz" has always been industrious, with good traditions, and a sample for the oil-workers from other regions. No wonder, that contribution of our specialists, engineers, technical officers in Western Siberia and Kazakhstan, was highly appreciated by the Government of the country».
Today they say and write a lot about utilization of the associated gas. Last year the urgency of an issue was marked by the President of RF in the annual Address to the Federal Assembly. All oil producing companies try to solve this problem with the help of target programs. In due time the staff of "Saratovneftegaz" carried on serious and unique work on the matter.

«While constructing and developing the oilfields there was set and successfully fulfilled the task - not to burn associated gas in flares, but to give it to the users, id est citizens of those areas in the Saratov Region, which are situated close to the wellsites, - says Gennady Sergeevich. - As a result, hundreds of kilometres of gas pipe lines were built with no expenses from regional budget. For example, gas pipe lines in length of more than 160 km, which allow to gasify all inhabited localities in Rovenskoye and Engelsskoye Districts, were put from Limano-Grachevskoye, Rovenskoye, Kvasnikovskoye oilfields. Thanks to the oil-workers gas is injected to big and small villages of Perelyubsky, Sovetsky, Krasnokutsky, Lysogorsky, Krasnoarmejsky, Saratovsky, Tatishchevsky, Novoburassky and other districts of the Region. Thanks to the oil-workers in many inhabited localities there were conducted operations on the construction of pipelines in villages, in houses and flats. Thus, "Saratovneftegaz" and its enterprises formed the ground for the large-scale gasification in rural districts.  

«Luzyanin's epoch» was marked by the serious and responsible care to ecological problems. There was implemented capsulation of crude-oil and oil products storage, single tube pressure system of gathering, oil and gas transportation, that practically excluded line rupture and pollution of the territory. For gas purifying from deleterious impurity at Limano-Grachevskoye oilfield there was built and brought into operation the plant of canadian production. Due to the work of this plant environmental setting at Rovnoye and its surroundings was brought into a state of norm. Purified gas was injected to villages of Rovenskoye and Engelsskoye Districts. There were developed and brought into operation many other environmental actions.
«And even now, working in hard mining and geological conditions, the staff of "Saratovneftegaz" worthily keeps up traditions of their predecessors, - says G.S. Luzyanin. - Due to new technologies and a set of effective geological and engineering operations it is possible to stabilize and to keep permanent exploitation rate for more than 30 years, while in Russia it was cut by more than 2 times. Though oil recovery in "Saratovneftegaz" isn't very high, it doesn't give a handle not to underestimate potential of the staff. Oil recovery somewhere in th North or in Siberia doesn't require any special skills or facilities. The Saratov Region differs from those mentioned by scavenger oil. Every oilfield there has its own peculiar approach, it demands creative engineering decisions, professionalism and knowledge of the previous experience in development».
The Saratov Region is rich in oil and gas, consideres G.S.Luzyanin. More than 25 thous. km2 are not geophysically explored, especially the most perspective territory - Caspian Sea lowgrounds. Federal government program is required to conduct oil and gas exploration in the Saratov Region; it'll help to come to a level of 1990 by volume of field and development geophysics, exploratory drilling, parametric drilling, prospective drilling and development drilling. There is operations base for this works. Saratov is a home for gas industry of USSR and Russia, and importance of this circumstance shouldn't be neglected.
