Oil is burning, but not because of lightning

«Orsknefteorgsintez» is the largest refinery in the Orenburg Region. Hundreds of thousands of cubic metres of oil products are kept in tens of the reservoirs on its territory. Industrial safety is paid here greater attention, as well as in other subsidiary enterprises of «Russneft»: multi-stage control systems, specially drawn up programs, obligatory incorporation of safety requirements for any jobs or repairs.
— Rigging of capacity drums for oil products with the lightning protectors is introduced at the engineering stage, — said the specialists of the industrial safety department. — On perimeter of reservoir there are installed several lightning dischargers, each having its own radius of action. Each of them duplicates the neighboring ones, thus creating original shelter area. When the system is being installed and operating correctly, the fire from the direct hit of lightning is impossible.
